Still Gazing Upwards At The Sky

This is a picture from when we got up early late last week to examine the skies for any changes. This is the waning moon in the pre-dawn hours as we tried to capture its likeness on the last night we went out to look for the elusive Aurora Borealis lights that were said to be in the northern skies, due to a coronal mass ejection of energetic solar particles early last week. You can see the glimmer of the outline of the illuminated portion of the dark side of the moon, which gets a little light reflected upwards from the earth via the light on the oceans.Tonight (Tuesday) is a new moon, which really means no moon is visible, so take a night off from moon-gazing. The first sign of the crescent should be visible soon.
